Ingredients
(10 bites)
1 banana, ripe
1 bar 100% dark chocolate
Almond or cashew butter
Method
- Slice the banana. Arrange half of the slices on a lined baking sheet. Spoon about 1/3 teaspoon of almond or cashew butter on the banana slices; top with the other half of banana slices.
- Place chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted. Or melt on the stove in a double boiler.
- Place one banana sandwich on a fork and dip thoroughly into the chocolate. Place the coated banana sandwich back on the prepared baking sheet, and repeat with the remaining slices. Place baking sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Benefits
BANANA
This fruit is high in potassium which plays a crucial role in regulating fluids inside the body. This mineral also has myorelaxant properties and so sustains muscle recovery post-workout and helps decrease menstrual pain. This fruit is also rich in prebiotic fibers, the “feed” of our gut microbiome, which support the healthy growth of the gut bacteria and promote good gut immunity. However, banana is naturally rich in sugars, so always remember to balance them out by combining banana with a source of fat or protein.
CHOCOLATE
Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants and stimulates the release of endorphins which act as health boosters due to their ability to fight against anxiety, stress, and fatigue.
ALMOND/CASHEW BUTTER
Almonds and cashews are optimal sources of monounsaturated fats, the healthy ones. They are also rich in magnesium, phosphorous, calcium, and other essential minerals for hormonal and bone health.
